Our team has about 300 members. Consisting of all kinds of people, from archaeologists to farmers. We all have a common interest concerning the Viking age, history, Viking activities and conservation of ancient handicrafts. Most of the team members make their own equipment.
Borre Vikinglag's goal is to spread knowledge about Borre and Vestfolds history, especially the Iron Age / Viking age, and to broaden knowledge about daily life and crafts from that time period. To accomplish this we arrange Viking markets every other summer at the Borre National Park . Some of us also travel from market to market in the Nordic countries to show crafts, sell homemade products and learning new things. At the same time we can convey knowledge with other participants and visitors, as we have “authentic” Viking equipment, and try to live as close to the Viking life as possible.
During the weekdays before the market is held, we arrange educational workshops where people can learn more about a number of traditional crafts. We also have field trips to historic sites and seminars with archaeologists and historians.
We also take on commercial assignments, like leasing out our big tent and being hosts for an event, or go to different places where “things are happening”. We also work a lot for Midgard Historiske Senter with representation and procurement.
Borre Vikinglag has no religious or political connection. We are strongly against any misuse of Norse symbols or mythology!!.
